InMaricopa - School bond gets its own website, podcast — just like Joe Rogan
In this InMaricopa article written by Jeff Chew and published on August 27th, addresses the MUSD Prop 488 bond approval that will be on the November 2024 ballot.
Maricopa Unified School District has launched a website and podcast to inform voters about the upcoming bond election Nov. 5.
With student enrollment approaching 10,000 across the district, MUSD administrators and school board members said they are taking steps to ensure schools keep pace with the community’s rapid growth.
“MUSD Bond Prop 488 is critical for our district to accommodate growing enrollment and provide the quality schools our community expects,” said MUSD Superintendent Tracey Lopeman. “We know that voters have a choice, and we want to make sure everyone in our community has the information they need to make an informed decision that will shape the future of our schools.”
To meet future growth, the school board called for a $70 million special bond election in June. The bond election aims to accommodate rapid enrollment growth and supplement inadequate state funding without increasing the tax rate, MUSD officials said. The bond election would help finance the construction of two new schools serving students in grades K-8 and expand high school facilities without raising the current tax rate.
Lopeman said the “Just the Facts” website is a resource designed to make sure voters have bond election details at their fingertips.
The website covers how the bond funds would be used, what it means for taxpayers and what options district residents have to cast their ballots.
To dive a little deeper, an “Inside MUSD” podcast was produced: “Inside MUSD S2, E1 Just the Facts – Bond Prop 488.” It’s available on Spotify, iTunes and on the website.
